Fire Protection Systems training for fire inspectors, fire marshals, code officials, plans examiners and other fire prevention professionals. These online courses focus on the inspection, testing, plan review and code requirements for water-based and other fire protection systems. Training emphasizes practical field application, accurate documentation and the use of nationally recognized standards. Current offerings include Water Supply Testing based on NFPA 291, with instruction on hydrant flow testing, water-supply data and the information needed to support fire protection system design and review.

Planned duration: 1 contact hour

Practical training for fire inspectors, fire marshals and authorities having jurisdiction who receive and evaluate third-party sprinkler inspection, testing and maintenance reports.

Planned learning objectives:
• Distinguish deficiencies, impairments and critical findings.
• Evaluate inspection frequencies and report completeness.
• Identify common sprinkler, water-supply and fire-pump findings.
• Document corrective action and follow-up.

This course is in development and is not currently available for enrollment.

NFPA 291 Water Supply and Fire Flow Testing is an online, self-paced fire protection systems course for fire inspectors, fire marshals, code officials, plans examiners and other fire prevention professionals. Accurate water-supply data is essential for evaluating available fire flow and supporting the design and review of water-based fire protection systems.

Course Details
Duration: Approximately one hour
Credit: One contact hour
Delivery format: Online and self-paced
Standard: Based on NFPA 291, Recommended Practice for Fire Flow Testing and Marking of Hydrants
Prerequisites: No formal prerequisites. Basic familiarity with fire hydrants and fire protection systems is helpful.

Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, learners will be able to:
• Describe the proper setup and procedure for conducting a hydrant flow test.
• Distinguish among static pressure, residual pressure and flow-test measurements.
• Collect and interpret water-supply test data.
• Document test results for inspection, evaluation and plan-review purposes.

Assessment and Certificate
Learners must complete the instructional content and pass the final examination with a score of at least 80 percent. A certificate of completion is issued after all course requirements are satisfied.

This course is developed for practical field application by experienced fire-service and code professionals. It connects nationally recognized guidance with the inspection, testing, documentation and plan-review responsibilities performed by fire prevention personnel.
